The Regis College Marshall M. Sloane School of Business and Communication (SBC) participated in a one-week study abroad exchange with Frankfurt Summer University of Applied Sciences from Friday, May 19 through Saturday, May 26, 2023.

The students who participated in the study abroad opportunity included Kristin Barrett (author) ’24, Antonia “Toni” Ondres ‘23, Rita Dow ‘23, Nora Connor ‘24, Aryaman Nagaraj ‘26, Brendan McDonough ‘23, and Regis graduate students Lunisse Antoine and Ron Rego. The study abroad opportunity was led by Dr. William Koehler, dean of the SBC.

On Friday, May 19, we began our journey, leaving Boston at 7 a.m. and arriving in Frankfurt, Germany at 10:15 p.m. I got my passport updated with 36 hours to spare to prepare for my unforgettable first time abroad with the SBC in Frankfurt, Germany.

On Saturday, we began our trip with a guided city tour of Frankfurt. Shoutout to our wonderful tour guide! On this tour we saw Römerberg, Cathedral of Saint Bartholomew, walked across the Iron Bridge, and had a welcome dinner hosted by Frankfurt University.

We began Sunday with getting some Euros at the train station and left for a guided tour of Mainz where we visited the Dom and Gutenberg museums. At the Gutenberg Museum, we saw the oldest printing press in the world. We ended our day in Mainz going to a beer garden and back to Frankfurt for dinner.

On Wednesday, we took a trip to Heidelberg where we toured Heidelberg Castle, which dates back to 1214. This was my absolute favorite part of the trip. The castle was so beautiful!

On Friday, we saw the Main Tower of Frankfurt and ended the day with a closing dinner with the German faculty and students.

Throughout the week, we had many lectures at Frankfurt University on various topics such as intercultural training, Digital Design, Communication Management, and more. We also participated in a group project with the German students, where we helped them apply data security and user experience to design an automated enterprise-level IT equipment for ordering applications. Dean Koelher shared that the best examples of the designed app will be presented by the students to corporate stakeholders/partners, who may then hire the students to create the app for their firms.
